Gallery XXL brings urban contemporary art to the forefront and explores processes of curation that open up interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary possibilities. The gallery is a space to engage with Indian and International artists who are critically reinventing urban art techniques. It is in the catalyzation of novel inquiries that emerge from the urban contemporary and post graffiti phenomena, that the gallery becomes a space-time for a desire that is extra extra large. Its name echoes Basquiat’s city walk as he calls his medium “extra large” in the movie Downtown 81. Coalesced with this influence, is the experience of working with artists in studios as in streets – seeking a scale for plurality, ambition, and explorations.
